Packaging
The packing is very good but I wonder why there is no plastic covering the Kinect sensor? Not much problem there though, as it still didn't damage the device. The Kinect come with Kinect sensor, Kinect Adventure game and an power adaptor. Well, you get a compatible power adaptor depending on your region. Xbox360 Slim player doesn't need to worry about the adaptor as Kinect can directly use the power source from the console. The old Xbox360 console will have to use the adaptor come with the package.
Pricing
I brought Kinect for Xbox360 US version back few weeks when Play-Asia is having promotion. You find out that US version (USD129.90) is cheaper than Asia and Japan Version (both USD 169.90). The only different between US and Asia/Japan is that the game (Kinect Adventure) which included with Kinect, US = Region Free while Asia/Japan is for NTSC-J Console only. And don't worry about Kinect won't fit on any Xbox360, Kinect motion sensor DOES NOT have region lock or some sort that won't work if you buy different region than your console originate from.
- You doesn't need a controller to play games
- Children friendly, doesn't really need to learn kinect games mechanic
- You getting some workout while playing kinect games
- Auto video/picture capture funny moment while you are playing games and share it through the internet
Disadvantage
- Require some space to play, not suitable for small apartment.
- You can't sit on a couch while playing kinect.
- Require a well lighted room.
- Foot feel pain after playing kinect games for sometime.
The auto video/capture capture playback may be fun to watch but there is certain games that capture you while naked playing kinect games. As i read the report from Dance Central, player been automatically capture without their knowing. You need disable this function in the game setting. Although the game doesn't post it over to your facebook or internet, people still can access your console to view it (your dad? or maybe your roomates?)
Setting up a Kinect room is important so that you can enjoy the game to fullest but it also pain in the ass doing so. You need approx 6ft(approx 3m) away from the Kinect camera and minimum 1.5 meter wide to move around depending on your size. A 1 sided light source is not recomended but is still playable. If the light source are focus on your right, your left side of your body may have some difficulty for the Kinect to read. Watch the video above for more info.
Verdict
Kinect is 1 of the technolgy breakthrough in gaming industry. For the first time player can play games differenly, workout in home or having fun with friends and family. Other than problem setting up a Kinect room, the motion sensor is top notch.
